About this retreat

Located in the highlands of Jalisco along the shimmering shores of Lake Chapala, this luxurious retreat unfolds inside a private lakeside villa designed for deep rest and renewal. Gentle breezes drift through the property and the wide expanse of the lake creates a sense of calm that settles the moment you arrive. This is not an average retreat. It is a full service, luxury wellness experience where every detail is crafted to support your nervous system and wellness. The villa offers stunning lake side views, quiet corners for reflection, and multiple outdoor spaces where you can breathe and let the world fall away. Throughout your stay, a local cook will be on site preparing breakfast and lunch each day. Daily hatha yoga, meditation circles, satsanga workshops, and journaling circles weave together to create a five day journey of grounding, softening, and inner renewal. Each guest will be able to book one complimentary massage. When you’re not in session, the villa becomes your sanctuary. You can float in the pool, soak in the jacuzzi, or wander down to the lake for paddleboarding. The natural beauty of the mountains rising around the water creates a feeling of being held by the land itself. The retreat is held in a private, spacious seven‑bedroom lakeside home, offering comfort, privacy, and an intimate atmosphere for deep rest. Each bedroom includes its own private bathroom, giving every guest a personal sanctuary to unwind and recharge. With a small retreat group, the home feels peaceful, quiet, and intentionally designed for restoration. This location was chosen intentionally for its calming energy, natural beauty, and the way the lake and mountains naturally support nervous system regulation. The home sits about nine miles from the town of Chapala, close enough to feel connected yet far enough to offer true stillness. It is a place where time slows and you have the space to unwind. Here, you are invited to experience a kind of magic that emerges when nature and wellness come together as a luxurious experience.

Why this retreat

This retreat is intentionally small, so the experience feels intimate and spacious. With only a handful of participants, the energy stays soft and personal. Attendees are free to move at their own pace and choose what feels nourishing. The location is unique in that in 1929, Paramahansa Yogananda traveled to Lake Chapala during a period of needing his own retreat, needing inner healing. He came here to step away from noise and responsibility, to reflect, to restore, and to reconnect with his own center. The lake’s quiet expanse, the gentle climate, and the sincerity of the local people created a kind of sanctuary where he could breathe again. He spent his days walking along the water, sitting in contemplation, and letting the landscape soften the weight he had been carrying. It was here that he wrote poetry, prayed, and allowed himself to be held by the stillness that Chapala is known for. His time here was a retreat in the truest sense, shaped by beauty, quiet, and the kind of natural spaciousness that invites one to settle into the stillness. The lake has a way of drawing out what needs attention and soothing what feels frayed. Yogananda’s time in Chapala was a period of personal retreat, inner healing, spiritual reflection, and creative inspiration. He came here to reset, and the land met him with exactly the kind of quiet spaciousness that allows true restoration to happen. That same quality is still present, waiting for anyone who arrives with an open heart and a willingness to slow down. The rhythm of the retreat mirrors this environment. You begin your days with meditation and hatha yoga that help you arrive in your body. Workshops and circles offer space for reflection, conversation, and gentle insight. Free time lets you wander the lakeside paths, rest in the shade, or explore nearby towns. A complimentary massage supports deeper release, and additional sessions are available if your body asks for more care. What makes this retreat special is the combination of a smaller group, and a landscape with a history of supporting spiritual seekers. It is a place where you can slow down and reconnect in a way that feels natural and quietly transformative. It is not just a retreat. It is a return to a rhythm of your whole being.

About the retreat leader

Marina Tascoff
Marina Tascoff

My life's work has been shaped by 27 years of personal yoga practice and 31 years of daily meditation. The first three years, I studied closely under my yoga and life mentor whose tutelage gave me the foundations and depth of understanding yoga, and yoga philosophy which deeply transformed my life. I carried that learning forward through the next couple of decades with my personal yoga practice and in my life. Today I'm a certified yoga instructor with five years of teaching experience. My academic background includes degrees in Social Development from the University of Cape Town, South Africa and Social Work from Arizona State University. My career has focused on directing domestic and sexual violence programs, from building one of Phoenix's largest culturally sustaining service models to managing programs on a national scale at Arizona State University. I've led teams of advocates, facilitated support groups, provided crisis support and legal advocacy for survivors. I've also served on state boards and national technical work groups, contributing to standards of care and best practices for agencies across the U.S. Alongside my career, I bring more than twenty-five years of experience as a massage therapist. Here I have integrated bodywork and movement into a deeply healing and holistic approach that assists people toward balance while supporting them throughout their healing journey. My work in advocacy and somatic work has held healing at both the macro and micro levels, building programs, shaping standards and supporting individuals in their most vulnerable moments. Together, these experiences have taught me how to create safe environments, build structure, guide groups, support emotional release and lead with compassion and clarity. This is the foundation I bring into the retreat space. On a personal level, my maternal family is from the general region surrounding Lake Chapala, which makes returning here to host this retreat especially meaningful.
