How to choose a one-week retreat

Many retreat programmes are built around a week. The first day goes on arriving and settling in, the last on closing and travel, and the days between carry the programme itself: practice, workshops, rest or time outdoors.

Seven days often means six nights, and eight days often means seven, which suits a Saturday-to-Saturday trip. Check the nights on each listing, the room type the starting price is for and which meals are included. If anything is unclear, ask the retreat leader in your booking request: they confirm availability and the final price before anything is charged.

A short course cannot cover a full 200-hour certification on its own, so check which hours, module or certificate it gives, and whether it counts towards a longer training.

Before you book

  • Count the nights as well as the days, and check the arrival and departure times.
  • Read the daily schedule: how many sessions a day, and how much free time.
  • See which room the starting price is for, and what a private room costs.
  • Plan the journey: the nearest airport, and whether a transfer is offered.
